Taekwondo4Kids: The End of an Era

Monday marked the end of an era as we held our final Taekwondo4Kids session. The last class was a Christmas special, including a piñata (allowing only taekwondo kicks to hit it), a reindeer 'back kick' treasure hunt, and a dynamic dance warm-up led by Ms Rajyaguru! At the end of the session, we handed out Christmas crackers (complete with taekwondo-themed jokes and trivia) as well as certificates for each student.

The children’s club has been running for over six years and in that time we have welcomed many participants, while also maintaining a core group of dedicated young students who have developed a passion for taekwondo. Two of these students have reached black belt, and many others are now senior belts in ITF taekwondo.

I am particularly proud of the number of girls we have training, especially in our Juniors class (age 4-8), and I feel strongly that having female instructors both leading and supporting classes encourages younger girls to see their own potential journey in martial arts. If you can see your pathway, it’s much easier to follow it.

Several members will be transitioning to either our ladies’ evening class or Master Overton’s Leicester Taekwondo Academy, which I am really pleased about. For those students taking a break from taekwondo, please be assured that your current belt grade remains valid; you are welcome to join any ITF club in the country and continue at your achieved grade.

So a big thank you to all of our students for being awesome individuals that as a group make the club such a kind and welcoming environment to train in. Thank you to our parents, for encouraging and supporting their children to learn their movements and practice taekwondo at home. And of course I would not be able to run the club were it not for the help of our assistant instructor Beenal, who is a natural at teaching; her high standards and patient guidance have been invaluable.

Wishing you all a restful Christmas break and a very happy New Year. I will miss each and every one of you, and truly hope parents will keep me updated of progress going forwards.

Ms Davis IV Dan
